BGLL is operated entirely by volunteers from our community. The Board, coaches and many parents, siblings and friends are doing their part to keep this league running and make it a positive experience for our children. To apply for a volunteer position, click "Sign Up" above. You'll need to answer a few questions and upload a copy of your ID. Within a day or two, you'll receive an email with a link to complete a background check at no cost to you, as required by Little League ®

Beginning in 2024, all volunteers are required by Little League® to complete a Child Abuse Awareness Training. USA Baseball offers a free, 30 minute training hosted by former Major Leaguer David Ross. Access the training here. If you have already completed a training on Child Abuse Awareness, you can upload a copy of that certificate with your volunteer application.

Beech Grove Little League requires all coaches to complete Little League's Diamond Leader Training.
Access the training here.

Volunteering FAQs:

Do you do some sort of background check on any volunteers dealing with children?

- Yes, every volunteer is required to complete a background check that includes criminal history and a search of the National Sex Offender Registry. A new background check is required each year someone volunteers. Anyone with pending charges involving a minor or conviction of a crime involving a minor will automatically be disqualified as a volunteer.

How do we know when and what volunteers are needed?

- We are planning on having a calendar to share out with concession shifts and event shifts. A concession shift schedule will be available once the game schedules are set. Special event dates and times are still being scheduled. All information and volunteer opportunities will be posted to our website and to our Facebook page.

How do I sign up to volunteer?

- Choose the division and role you’d like to volunteer for and create an account if you do not already have one. You will answer a few questions and upload a photo of your government issued ID. You can also upload any documentation of certifications (such as CPR, first aid or required Child Abuse training etc) Within 24 hours, you will receive an email with a link to complete a full background check. We typically receive the report back within 1-2 days and can then verify you as a volunteer.

Coaching FAQs:

Do I need to be the parent of a player to coach?

- No! We have had grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, family friends and neighbors volunteer to help out. Any interested adult is welcome to apply to coach a team!

What support and training do you offer to coaches?

- This year, all our coaches and assistant coaches will be required to complete the Diamond Leader Training through Little League. We will also be scheduling a coach’s orientation meeting and offering training and support sessions about teaching baseball skills and communicating with players and guardians. There will be board members present at practices and games to provide support in the moment as needed. If you are not ready to be a head coach, volunteering to be an assistant coach would be a great way to get some experience and see how you like it!

When I coached, the game rules changed depending on who the coach of the other team was. How will you support coaches in reinforcing rules?

- Every coach and parent will be provided a copy of our local rules before the season begins. They will also be posted to our website for everyone to see and review. Additionally, we recommend downloading the free Little League Rulebook app on your smartphone to look up official Little League playing rules. Board members will be present at games to assist with reinforcing rules to ensure fair play for all teams.

When I coached, it seemed like the veteran coaches got more attention and nicer equipment that the newer coaches.

- We are working on ordering some new equipment this year to make sure everything we offer is in safe playing condition.
